Matías Sebastián Fernandez Robbio has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (Argentina). He is currently enrolled in a master’s programme at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (Spain) and a doctoral programme at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina). His master’s thesis in progress is intitled “The papyri of Herculaneum and the transmission of the epicurean philosophy: translation and commentary of Philodemus’ treatise ‘On death’; (P. Herc. 1050)” and is under the supervision of Dr. Salvador Mas Torres (UNED, Spain). This thesis aims to produce the first translation of this fragmentary treatise into Spanish.
His doctoral dissertation in progress is intitled “A prose writer’s poetry: philological commentary on the epigrams attributed to Lucian of Samosata” and is under the supervision of Dr. Pilar Gómez Cardó (UBarcelona, Spain) and Dr. Elbia Haydée Difabio (UNCuyo, Argentina). This dissertation aims to produce a critical edition that collates many ignored manuscripts, the first philological commentary on this corpus and a new translation into Spanish under the light of these studies. His main fields of interest include Hellenistic and Imperial Greek literature (with a focus on epigrammatic literature and Lucian of Samosata) and Greek textual criticism.
